ARLINGTON, TX (June 28, 2023) – The Arlington Museum of Art is the recipient of a 2023 grant from Texas Women for the Arts (TWA), a program of the Texas Cultural Trust. The $5,000 grant funds will be used to support the AMA’s long-standing Summer Art Camp program.
The Arlington Museum of Art Summer Art Camp program is a decades-long collaboration with the Arlington Independent School District (AISD). It is an important part of the AMA’s mission to champion creativity and provide access to art for the educational enrichment and cultural development of the community.
AMA Summer Art Camp curriculum is developed and taught by AISD teachers. The curriculum changes every year, because it is inspired by the museum’s summer exhibits which also change every year. The curriculum is built according to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards.
Thanks to supporters like the Texas Women of the Arts, this year the AMA will reach an all-time high of 500 students, half of which are Title I students who attend the camp for free on a scholarship program.
“Summer Art Camp is one of our most popular programs,” said Chris Hightower, President and CEO of the Arlington Museum of Art. “This year, we’re getting to expand our Title I access to more students. As we look ahead to next year, we’re in talks with other cities—such as Grand Prairie, Euless, and Mansfield— with school districts that overlap Arlington. We are excited that even more children will have the opportunity to develop their artistic skills, have fun together, and get inspired by the unique environment of an art museum.”
TWA is a statewide giving circle and membership program whose mission is to awaken and nurture the artist in every Texas child. Established in 2005, this philanthropic force of influential women from across the state has awarded 362 grants, totaling more than $4 million, and impacting more than three million Texas children.
TWA Grants are awarded on an annual basis and selected following a rigorous review process.

For over 30 years, AMA has offered a summer learning experience for children. AMA Summer Art Camp is a half-day, week-long camp program tailored for children ages 6-12. In 2023, camps are held between June 12 – July 28. Every session includes:
- The curriculum is focused on art mediums, skills and techniques related to the museum’s summer exhibits, including Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Collection
- The classes are taught by professional art educators from Arlington Independent School District
- On the first day of camp, campers take a private, docent-led tour of our summer exhibition
- All art supplies are provided, as well as daily snacks
Each child creates their own portfolio of art that they get to take home. On the final day of camp, families attend a reception held in celebration of every camper’s creativity. For more information, visit arlingtonmuseum.org/summer-art-camp.
