Join Our Volunteer Team

Calling All Art Lovers! You’re invited to be a part of our team by becoming a volunteer. Volunteering at the Arlington Museum of Art is such a meaningful way to give back to the community while promoting the visual arts.

Not only will you have the opportunity to meet and work with fellow art-lovers, but volunteering provides you an up-close view of our exhibitions. You’ll also get a front row seat to all the behind-the-scenes mechanics of acquiring, curating, installing major art exhibitions.

To thank you for volunteering your time and enthusiasm, we’ll provide you a free museum polo shirt, badge, and free admission to our exhibits for you and your household.

Operational Volunteers

Our operational volunteers’ responsibilities consist of working our front desk, being a check-in attendant at our exhibit entry, or being a gallery attendant and monitoring the art galleries. This is the perfect opportunity for art and museum lovers alike to get some operational museum experience.

Visit the “Volunteer Information” page on the “Sign Me Up!” link below to get started!

Docent Program

Our docent program is for those volunteers who wish to be a tour guide for our exhibits.
Being a docent involves 2 training classes about being a docent and the upcoming exhibits, as well as giving a practice tour to a member of staff to ensure you’re prepared to guide our visitors on their tours. This is a great way to express your knowledge of the subject matter and share your love of art with our groups.

To sign up for the docent program, click the “Docent Application” button below.

Are you already an AMA Volunteer?

Your expertise and enthusiasm are needed to welcome guests and serve as gallery hosts! Shifts are flexible and available during the week and on weekends.

Coffee with Chris

Active AMA volunteers are invited to join us for informal get-togethers with AMA President & CEO Chris Hightower. Contact us for the next date and time of our meeting!

Volunteering is easy. And fun!

Our volunteers truly are part of our team and play a vital role in the success of our operations and positive guest experiences each day.

There’s no experience necessary to become an AMA volunteer. We’ll show you the ropes! Our volunteers greet visitors when they arrive, assist visitors with ticket purchases, and provide general information about the museum. For those who are interested in additional training, volunteers can also take guests on exhibition tours, help guests with purchases from the Gift Shop, assist with special events and functions, and help staff members with administrative duties.

Ready to start? Sign up today.

The AMA welcomes volunteers who are 16 years of age and older. Thank you for your interest!
