One Point Five Degrees, an immersive art experience curated exclusively by the AMA, contemplates the power and fragility of the natural world

ARLINGTON, TX (September 22, 2023) – Brought together for the first time by the Arlington Museum of Art, digital works by American artist Adam Fung and Canadian artist Sabrina Ratté will surround visitors in the museum’s first-ever, immersive art experience.

Entitled One Point Five Degrees, the experience will be one of the AMA’s debut exhibitions for its grand re-opening in the Arlington Entertainment District. The New AMA will open to the public on March 30, 2024.

One Point Five Degrees draws its name from the 2018 IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report on the threats from global climate change. The report details the widespread planetary impacts that would be caused by a rise in global temperature of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

“Inspired by the new era of digital art, we’re elated that One Point Five Degrees will be the AMA’s first immersive exhibition,” said Kendall Quirk, AMA Director of Exhibitions. “Artists Adam Fung and Sabrina Ratté are creating incredible works with deep meaning that connect with current issues in our community and world. The AMA’s new immersive galleries will be a space to engage and interact with artworks, inspiring the next generation of museum-goers.”

The New AMA: Coming Spring 2024

In partnership with the City of Arlington, the AMA will move to the Arlington Entertainment District into a location with eight times the exhibition space of its current building. In this new, world-class arts destination inside the Arlington Expo Center, the AMA will remain true to its roots while multiplying its creative capacity. The New AMA will present a wide range of exhibitions, including traditional, immersive, and interactive art, which will change every 3-4 months. Additional amenities will include a dedicated community gallery, education center, and expanded gift shop.

Immersive Art at the New AMA

“One of the most exciting things about the new Arlington Museum of Art are the immersive experiences that we’re going to bring to the public,” said Chris Hightower, AMA President and CEO.

“Artists have been experimenting with immersive art experiences for centuries,” continued Hightower. “In their day, the frescos in the Sistine Chapel presented art in a way that immersed the viewer inside the experience. That’s exactly what immersive artists are doing today, with all the traditional and digital mediums that our modern world makes available to them. Artists who produce original ‘next gen’ art –whether it’s immersive, interactive, NFT, or something else–are utterly untethered, creatively speaking. We can’t wait to share these experiences with Texans and the world.”

More announcements about the 2024-25 exhibition calendar at the New AMA will be made in the coming weeks. Tickets for One Point Five Degrees will be available starting in January 2024.
