“I’m really excited about the UTA x AMA exhibition because I think it is a fantastic opportunity to be exposed to so many of the students and their work. I’m inspired by the different perspectives coming together and how each student interprets their ideas in this show.”

– Dallas Contemporary Curator, Emily Edwards

About Emily Edwards

Emily’s journey to becoming a curator first sparked when she was in high school. Though she had always had a passion for art, it wasn’t until she took an AP Art History class, where her teacher taught her how curators are ‘storytellers through visual art.’ From that moment, she was hooked on the idea.

Emily went on to study Art History at the University of Texas in Austin. After accomplishing her undergrad, her first job took place in the curatorial department at the 9/11 Memorial Museum. She then pursued a Master of Arts in Art History and Museum Studies at Georgetown University. She joined the Dallas Contemporary as a curator six years ago, and has loved it ever since.

One of her missions is to work with artists who are committed to substantive social change. Her focus is on artists who use their practice to not only propose solutions, but to create positive ripple effects in our community.

More to Explore at the AMA

Traditional Gallery

In this large space divided into intimate galleries (perfect for viewing the art up close), the Arlington Museum of Art showcases a myriad of collections comprised of “traditional” art. We define traditional art forms are those that have been a long-standing part of a culture (such as painting, sculpture, textiles, photography, metalwork, etc.).

Immersive Galleries

In our four Immersive Galleries, we curate multisensory experiences that envelop viewers within the artwork itself. A unique blend of art and technology, the defining features of the immersive art installations we present are their originality, artistry, and meticulous design. Our Immersive Galleries total nearly 21,000 sq ft with walls 18 feet tall. That’s immersive!

HELP Center Gallery

Through an ambitious rotation of curated exhibits and related programs, the HELP Center for LGBTQ+ Health Gallery at the AMA provides a platform for emerging and established artists to showcase their unique perspectives and talents. Admission to the HELP Center Gallery is free, and its exhibition calendar is always changing.
