Arlington, TX – A blockbuster exhibition featuring over 200 pieces from the world-renowned Spanish artist Salvador Dali is coming to the Arlington Museum of Art later this month. The exhibit will be on display from October 21, 2017 through January 14, 2018. An opening reception for exhibit sponsors, museum members, and special guests will be held Friday, October 20.
Internationally famed for more than his paintings, Dali’s set design, architecture, sculpture, and writing, allowed him to make a name for himself as a multifaceted artist. Dali (1911-1989) was a key player in the Surrealist movement, having been a mentee of the leader of the movement, Andre Breton. However, his public antics and desire to express ideas not necessarily popular at the time became an issue to his colleagues, who distanced themselves from the unpredictable Dali. After exploring many themes in his art such as science, geometry, history, psychology and religion, Dali’s eccentric and bizarre styles separated his work from other artists’, becoming a household name.
Salvador Dali: Visions of Eternity features over 100 lithographs of Dante’s The Divine Comedy and 100 other pieces. We are excited to display Dali’s unparalleled and highly unusual techniques eliciting imaginative expression to the community, while also hosting events such as workshops and lectures to give our visitors an interactive learning experience.
Chris Hightower, Executive Director, said, “Salvador Dali is one of the world’s most well-known artists, but most people know him for his paintings. We are excited to share another aspect of Dali’s art to the North Texas community.”
The exhibit was curated by Gerald Nordland, noted author and independent curator, and former Director of the San Francisco Art Museum, The Milwaukee Art Museum, The Washington (D.C.) Gallery of Modern Art, and the Wight Gallery, UCLA. It was funded in part by a grant from the Arlington Cultural Tourism Council. For more information, visit ArlingtonMuseum.org. Admission tickets may be purchased at the door.
