Arlington, TX (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) — The Arlington Museum of Art is once again partnering with The University of Texas at Arlington and a senior-level digital storytelling class to explore a wide variety of contemporary themes inspired by the museum’s current and upcoming exhibitions, as well as broader topics related to visual and performing arts as well as explorations of modern culture.

UTA Digital Storytelling class taught by Dr. Erika Pribanic-Smith, Fall 2023

Associate Professor of Communication Erika Pribanic-Smith teaches the class and values opportunities to bring real-world experiences to her students.

“My goal is to give my students real-world experience in all of my classes, creating real stories using real sources,” said Dr. Pribanic-Smith. “Creating stories that will be published for the public to see, not just submitted for a grade, gives students extra incentive to put forth their best effort. Furthermore, working with professionals gives the students another layer of feedback to re-enforce what they’re learning in the classroom. I prefer to work with organizations like the Arlington Museum of Art who will benefit in some way from the students’ content so that we are providing a service to the community.”

The partnership, entitled AMA-UTA CreateCollab, has been going strong for a year, when the museum first partnered with Dr. Pribanic-Smith and her Fall 2022 class. Projects include photo essays, one-minute documentaries, and audio features.

“The students are really bringing their A-game in terms of creative concepts as well as production value,” said Chris Hightower, President and CEO of the Arlington Museum of Art. “Their diverse voices and modern points of view juxtaposed with the themes of our exhibitions are so compelling. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with UTA again in such a creative way.”
