The Arlington Museum of Art unveiled its Star of Texas art public art project to the public Friday, November 20, 2015, with a reception held at the museum in Downtown Arlington.
The project includes 20 fiberglass stars that will be positioned throughout the Arlington Cultural District (Downtown) and the Entertainment District. The stars are six feet tall. The Stars of Texas will remain on display at the AMA until December, and then the stars will be installed.
Texas artists were invited earlier this year to submit their interpretation of how they would depict The American Dream City, the City of Arlington’s official brand, on an individual star. Once invited to participate, artists worked on their individual star design throughout the summer and fall.
The $150,000 public art project was made possible by donations, including $50,000 by each the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation and Women Inspiring Philanthropy.
In June 2017, the Arlington Museum of Art added six additional stars to the Star of Texas public art project.
Additional stars were installed at Tails ‘N Trails Dog Park at the Arlington Animal Services Center, the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Center (two stars), Water Utilities Department’s South Service Center, The Sanford House Inn & Spa, and Elzie Odom Athletic Center. The new additions bring the total number of stars to 26.

We hope the new artwork installed will only increase the awareness of the talented artists we have here in Arlington and throughout Texas.”
