Meet Dr. August Jordan Davis
Dr. August Jordan Davis is an art historian and curator. Originally from Dallas, August
studied her BFA in Art History at UNT in Denton. However, in 1995 she moved to England
where she undertook her graduate studies, obtaining an MA (Distinction) in Visual Arts in
Contemporary Culture from Keele University, and a PhD in Art History from the University
of Liverpool. For over 20 years, August served as faculty at several UK universities across
various regions of England. From 2011 – 2019, she served as Director of The Winchester
Gallery and MA Program Leader for the contemporary curation master’s program she
created at the historic Winchester School of Art, part of the University of Southampton. In
2019, August became the Department Chair for the Department of Art and Art History at
the University of Texas at Arlington, where she also serves as tenured Associate Professor
of Art History. Since 2022, she also has served as Director of The Gallery at UTA. August
has published writings on a range of art historical issues over the last two decades and has
been invited to speak about art and curation across the USA, in Europe, India, China, and
Turkey. Her current curated exhibition, Paper Trails: showcasing the work of three women
artists across two generations each of whom do the unexpected with printed matter, was
