About Bill Barter

Bill Barter got involved in Arlington’s art scene in the 1980s as a founding Board member of the Arlington Museum of Art, which at that time focused on the Texas contemporary art. He also served as president of the AMA Board twice, and was a volunteer for decades.

Among his many notable contributions to the AMA was his leadership in organizing “Woodwork,” a show featuring Texas artists such as Otis Jones. In a conversation with Chris Hightower, President and CEO of the AMA, Bill acknowledged the support of gallery owners including as Pam and Bill Campbell, founders of Fort Worth’s William Campbell Contemporary Art, and Dallas’ Barry Whistler.

About AMA Art Hop

To us, the perfect day is spent exploring and experiencing all kinds of art. That’s the idea behind AMA Art Hop! On our event calendar and in our social media, if you see an AMA Art Hop event listing, that means it’s taking place outside of the museum and is being organized by a cultural partner, school/university, or professional visual arts venue or space in Arlington. We love to share information about other visual arts exhibitions and festivals that are taking place in our city so you can discover them, too!

We’ve also been on the hunt for a directory of all the public art in Arlington. While these lists on their own may not be comprehensive, together they paint a great picture (see what we did there?) of how active our city’s public art scene has become:
