Rock ‘n’ Roll Wall of Fame

Rock and Roll Wall of Fame

September 5 – October 18, 2015

Beginning September 5, the Arlington Museum of Art will simultaneously present the following 3 exhibits that focus on a socially, culturally, and politically influential publication still in print today, a music hub that helped reshape the canvas of rock and roll in the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s, and the talented musicians that Austin, Texas has encouraged and produced over the years.

Backstage Pass: Baron Wolman and the Early Years of Rolling Stone

Iconic images from Baron Wolman, first director of photography for Rolling Stone, a magazine that claims roots in music, pop culture, and politics. Wolman’s unparalleled access to rock and roll’s heavy hitters of the times helped Rolling Stone guide the creation of the “rock star” persona from performer, to cover model, to music and pop culture icon.

Rock and Roll Billboards from the Sunset Strip

abbey road 2

Advertising in one of the most musically influential parts of the country, industry executives used images such as the Beatles Abbey Road cover for billboards installed next to rock and toll clubs like the Whiskey-a-Go-Go, the Roxy, and the Key Club that gave a stage to up and coming bands that today enjoy a legendary status. L.A. based photographer Robert Landau brings back the look and feel of the creative genius these temporary works of art.

Live from Austin, Texas

Cassandra Weyandt spent years photographing musicians who would become some of the best known names in the Austin blues and country music scenes. These sharp, gritty performance photos capture the raw, unpolished feel of the Texas capitol’s bars and clubs where these musical icons performed.
